BETHESDA MISSION COMMUNITY CENTER STUDENTS TO PACK THANKSGIVING FOOD BAGS FOR FAMILIES IN NEED
Harrisburg, PA — Bethesda Mission’s Community Center is involved in a special project again this year. On Friday, November 16, 2018, from 4:00-5:30 p.m., about 20 children who attend the Community Center’s after-school program will be packing 600 Thanksgiving food bags to be distributed to those in need.
“The children and teens at our Community Center come from homes with significant challenges, and yet we ask them to pack food bags to help others whose challenges may be even greater,” Scott Dunwoody, executive director of the Mission, said. “Our gifted and dedicated staff come alongside these kids nurturing them to understand the value of helping others. The community generously donates the food so these needs can be met during this holiday season.”
“As we transition more fully into a community center, the importance of developing a sense of community within our students is vital to teaching them what loving our city truly means,” added Serina Brown, Community Center Director. “Packing food bags is one of the students’ favorite activities. They are learning how to love their neighbors and to support their own community.”
The contents of the bags were entirely donated by local churches, schools, and businesses and are intended to supply all the necessary ingredients for a hearty Thanksgiving meal for a family. The 600 bags, along with 600 turkeys, will be picked up for distribution by designated community partners on Monday, November 19.
