Bethesda Mission Community Center Construction Continues: HVAC Units Hoisted onto Gymnasium Rooftop

HARRISBURG, PA – Construction is moving along quickly on the corner of 15th and Herr Streets. On Tuesday morning beginning at 7 a.m., a crane will be on site at Bethesda Mission’s Community Center expansion project to hoist large HVAC units onto the roof of the new gymnasium. In addition to the full-sized gymnasium, the new facility will provide space for classrooms, a computer lab, and outdoor play area for neighborhood children, teens, and families.

“Bethesda Mission has been working with adults in crisis for over a century, and the Community Center is our preventative care unit,” Director of Development Cindy Mallow said. “To date, no children who have come through our community center’s youth programs have entered one of our shelters later in life. We are looking forward to replicating that success rate in even greater numbers through this expanded facility.”

Phase I of the project is expected to be complete by the end of June of this year, weather-permitting. Phase II of the project will be to implode the existing Youth Center building and build a new structure. Funds for Phase II are still being raised.

The overall cost of the project is $2.8 million with $2.1 million raised to date. Those interested in contributing to complete Phase II of the project should visit BethesdaMission.org/Fireproof.

MEDIA WELCOME AND APPRECIATED!
