Learn about our "Network of Compassion"
As Harrisburg’s only shelter for men, the historic facility at 611 Reily Street provides lodging, nutritious meals, hot showers, laundry facilities, and clothing, as needed. Comprehensive programming has a strong focus on long-term recovery.
Women & Children’s Shelter
Founded in 1983 and quickly becoming Harrisburg’s largest facility of its kind, the Women and Children’s Shelter provides lodging for single women as well as mothers and their children. This large loving family provides stability and time for healing.
1990 marked the opening of Bethesda Mission’s Youth Center – a direct response to the growing needs of inner city youth. With the help of an incredible team of staff and volunteers, the old firehouse on Herr Street has become a lighthouse to hundreds of inner city youth.
Trinity House is a transitional housing facility for male graduates of Bethesda Mission’s life-changing character development programs. Each prospective resident must be recommended by Bethesda’s counselors and also be gainfully employed while receiving ongoing mentoring from an active church member.
Bethesda Mission’s fully-equipped “Samaritan Service” vehicle is the flagship of our street ministry. The Mobile Mission makes its rounds every Friday and Saturday evening between 9:00pm and 12:00am.
Bethesda Mission provides excellent medical and dental services to its residents and, while not a walk-in clinic, takes referrals from other agencies in the Harrisburg area treating uninsured and under-insured low income persons.
Rural Outreach Ministries
Recognizing that poverty and hunger are less visible, yet harder to cure in outlying areas, our Rural Outreach began in late 1996. It now distributes over 1,500 of bags of food and essential daily household products to hungry and needy individuals and families each month.

“Life is a journey and sometimes that journey can be rough. The devastation’s of life can throw you into a deep valley that you can’t get out of. “Finding Joy” will help you find your way out of the valley and help you find healing along the way. “Finding Joy” also shares the personal story of a premature baby whose fight to survive will inspire you and lift your spirits high as you read each page.”
“In Mrs. Mouse Has Too Many Shoes, two delightful mice find that although it may take some thought and planning, giving to others brings happiness. Through her characters, Jane Alleman has captured the struggle and joy that is found when a charitable spirit exists.”
